AD8232 ECG Module – Single Lead Heart Rate Monitor Kit
Product Description
The AD8232 ECG Module Heart Rate Monitor Kit is a compact analog signal-conditioning board designed to measure and process the electrical activity of the heart. It captures small biopotential signals through ECG electrodes and provides an analog output that can be read by Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi (with a suitable ADC), and other compatible development boards.
Built around the AD8232 integrated signal-conditioning IC, this module amplifies and filters ECG signals to help reduce noise caused by movement and electrode placement. The processed signal can be viewed as an ECG waveform using a microcontroller and compatible display or serial plotting software.
The module provides connections for three ECG electrodes: Right Arm (RA), Left Arm (LA), and Right Leg (RL). It also includes lead-off detection outputs, a shutdown control pin, and an LED indicator that can pulsate with the detected signal.
Whether you are building an educational ECG project, exploring biomedical electronics, or experimenting with IoT-based signal monitoring, the AD8232 module offers a convenient platform for learning about ECG signal acquisition.
Note: ECG electrode pads and compatible sensor cables are required for operation and are not included unless specified in the package contents.

Electrode Placement
Connect the ECG electrodes according to the following arrangement:
RA – Right Arm: Connect the electrode to the right arm position.
LA – Left Arm: Connect the electrode to the left arm position.
RL – Right Leg: Connect the reference electrode to the right leg position.
Use compatible ECG electrode pads and sensor cables. Follow the module's wiring documentation and electrode manufacturer's instructions.
Compatible Development Boards
Arduino UNO and compatible Arduino boards
ESP32 development boards
Raspberry Pi with a suitable external ADC
Other microcontrollers with compatible analog input and voltage levels
Important: The AD8232 module produces an analog signal. Raspberry Pi boards do not have a built-in analog input, so an external ADC is required. Check the ADC input range and ensure that all signal connections are electrically compatible.

Safety Disclaimer
This is an educational and experimental electronics module, not a certified medical device.
It must not be used for medical diagnosis, treatment, or clinical decision-making.
Use only appropriate low-voltage, battery-powered equipment during experiments.
Do not connect the electrodes to a person while the circuit is connected to mains-powered equipment, chargers, or other equipment that could create an electrical path to the mains.
Use suitable isolation and follow electrical safety practices when developing connected systems.
Stop using the setup if discomfort or skin irritation occurs.
ECG waveform readings can be affected by movement, electrode contact, electrical interference, and circuit design.
Important Notes
ECG electrode pads and compatible sensor cables are required for operation.
The OUTPUT pin provides an analog ECG waveform; additional programming and signal processing are needed to interpret it.
A detected ECG waveform is not the same as a medically validated heart-rate or rhythm measurement.
Verify the module pin labels and supply requirements before connecting it to a development board.
