CJMCU APDS-9930 Proximity and Ambient Light Sensor Module
Product Description
The CJMCU APDS-9930 Proximity and Ambient Light Sensor Module is a compact digital optical sensing module that combines ambient light sensing (ALS), an infrared (IR) LED, and proximity detection in a single sensor package.
It can measure surrounding light intensity and detect nearby objects without physical contact. The ambient light sensor is designed to approximate the human eye's response to visible light, making it useful for automatic display brightness adjustment and light-sensitive applications.
The proximity sensor can detect objects at distances of up to 100 mm under specified conditions, without front glass. Its high sensitivity also allows it to work behind darkened glass, making it suitable for mobile phones, displays, and embedded electronics projects.
The APDS-9930 communicates digitally with a compatible microcontroller and includes programmable interrupt thresholds for proximity and ambient light measurements. Its low-power operating modes make it suitable for battery-powered applications.

Important Notes
The module's specified operating voltage is 2.8V–3.8V. Do not assume that its breakout board supports direct 5V operation.
The APDS-9930 uses I2C communication. Check the module's pin labels and interface details before connecting it.
The maximum proximity range of 100 mm is dependent on object reflectivity, ambient light, sensor alignment, and installation conditions.
Proximity performance may change when the sensor is installed behind glass or other protective materials.
The 0.01 lux figure refers to specified low-light sensing performance; actual results depend on configuration and operating conditions.
Verify the breakout board's voltage regulation and logic-level compatibility before connecting it to an Arduino, ESP32, or other controller.
